Lord, the only thing I'm concerned with on this laptop (except the RPM on HDD) is the fact it is dual core. Wouldn't this be slower than an actual 3.3GHz processor?

not necessarily, Say a processor can only run 1 process millisecond, a dual core can then run two per millisecond, due to the two cores.

Yeah dual-core processors are great, I have used and recommended them for about 4 years.

I recomend duel or quad cores, however don't be confused, it only has x processing speed, ie I have 2.2ghz quad core, this runs slower than a single 3.3ghz cpu. BUT it can run MORE things at once. Making the machine work, and multi task oh so much better.

Well it also depends on your particular CPU and if the maker provides good drivers to simulate multithreading. For example I use an AMD FX series and AMD provides a couple of drivers that allow programs to take advantage of the full speed of the processor. Of course it can never be a full multiple (like, a 2.5GHz dual core will never process a single application faster than a 5GHz single core), but the drivers increase the speed.
My CPU is 2.6GHz (slightly OCd to 2.8) and my GPU is the latest release, a GeForce 280i by XFX (it is a souped up version of the best consumer video card out) and there is still no bottleneck at the CPU. That is partly because it is an FX series CPUs are crazy performers but it is also because simulated multithreading really does work. There is also the point that a lot of programs feature at least very simple multithreading capability.
Anyways the short of that is that multi-core CPUs are really great at multitasking like everyone says but they can also perform very well with single applications if they are set up properly

lol hell yea at work ive seen a intel p4 3.2ghz (single core) pc run vista and also ive seen a intel dual core 2.0ghz running same copy of windows vista. and shit man.. the dual core loaded the menus up no delay no slight pause just about crapped myself on the speed of this beast of a pc i didnt wanna give it to the lady that bought it haha.

oh and yes, the speed of the hdd does matter between a 5400rpm and 7200rpm, less noise and faster access.. good to make sure its got a bit of cache on the drive as well. seek times etc, and ide or sata (all shud be sata now days!) lol. (they might not give you that info) but you gota watch out on laptops, they will budge out somewhere to make it look pretty and not say. ie the hdd's being 5400rpm (bottleneck would be here in this case).. but if you dont care and it works fine.. then by all means :)

Go for the Old Raptor HDDs, 10,000 rpm, :D

    However, shite storage: 80ish GBs

Yeah for sure, I use a 150GB Raptor for C: and it really makes an impact on everything.

other than th chipset graphics, which you probably cant upgrade, and the slowish hdd rpm looks like a pretty sweet deal. keep in mind 45nm cpu's (T7**** ? i think) are spreading faster and there's a new pure 45nm line up coming out shortly, bigger capacities less power and heat... th T5550 is 65nm and you can get very similar lappies for less than $1200 in aus
