    With the new internet privacy laws in NZ that let ISPs disconnect internet connections for 6 months and fine $15k for illegal downloading, VPNs are becoming more popular.
    With a VPN everything you do online goes through another server and is encrypted the whole way, which means that no one including your ISP can know what you're doing.
    The service I use is called BTGuard and it uses the program OpenVPN, which offers even stronger encryption than usual. It's about $10NZD per month.
    Another benefit is that it stops your ISP from throttling certain types of bandwidth; often ISPs make torrents run slowly to discourage piracy, but they can't do that if they can't tell if you are using a torrent or not.

    I practice responsible pirating, which means I download things for free and then pay for the things I liked. It's important to me to do it like this because I think advertising can be so misleading that this is the more moral thing to do when compared with paying for things based on advertising.
    This way I'm not encouraging companies/people who make poor quality products but advertise very well, and instead I'm encouraging companies/people who make high quality products every time.

    Does anyone else use a VPN or have thoughts on market morality?

    I suppose my thoughts are similar. If I use a product a lot (particularly if I get benefit from it) or I think the company deserves the money for the effort they put into it initially, and sometimes ongoing, then I'll pay for it. Otherwise I'll just torrent it. I don't use a VPN because I haven't yet found a free one (though probably through lack of trying) and I don't have any income yet (working on that :P). Once I get some money coming in I'll be investing in better internet (either here or in my own house) and a VPN I think. In the meantime, I just have to use torrents sparingly I guess :P

    Well.... that failed pretty fast lolz.
    It can't connect to the virtual network (possibly because I have a static IP network setup and my internet has to go through a modem and a router before reaching my machine). :tongue:

    try the version from here, it uses a better build than the official one. also make sure you restart the computer after installing it

    I haven't bothered with VPNs. I don't think Australia really cares much about piracy, unless you are a tool and upload or seed shit.
